Post-recovery monitoring helps distinguish a successful cleanup from a temporary pause in malicious activity. The objective is early detection, useful evidence, and a defined response—not a dashboard full of unactionable alerts.
Monitoring can include
- WordPress core, plugin, theme, and PHP version status.
- Unexpected file creation or modification in sensitive paths.
- New administrators, application passwords, or privilege changes.
- Suspicious scheduled events, redirects, or configuration changes.
- Availability, TLS, domain, and external reputation warnings.
- Backup completion, retention, storage location, and restoration readiness.
- Abnormal outbound email, traffic, resource use, or error rates.
Maintenance with change control
Updates should be supported by backups, compatibility checks, defined maintenance windows, and a rollback plan. Urgent security updates may require accelerated handling, but changes should still be recorded and verified.
What monitoring cannot guarantee
No monitoring service can guarantee that every attack will be prevented or detected immediately. Effective monitoring improves visibility and response speed, but it must be combined with secure hosting, supported software, appropriate access controls, tested backups, and responsible administration.
